Talk Turkey Tuesday Part III
This week is Part III of our Talk Turkey Tuesday our ongoing series to help you prepare for Thanksgiving. You can read Part I and Part II to catch up on additional posts on the blog. We’re now at the week before Thanksgiving and it’s time to get shopping, cooking and plan the final details of your table.
Grocery Shopping
Do you remember the two grocery lists you put together based on your menu? This week we will start shopping for our fresh items. I like to have everything bought by Sunday. Items like fresh flowers and pre-orders I may pickup next Tuesday after work.
TIP: be sure to check the sales at the different grocery stores like Kroger, Fresh Market, Whole Foods and your local meat market. Prices of turkeys vary greatly and stores often have some great deals this week.
Cooking
Next we’ll start cooking this week anything that can be done ahead. Meatballs, dips and cheese balls for appetizers along with breads cranberry relish and casseroles that can be safely frozen or refrigerated. Be sure to check all of our recipes posted on the blog for easy (often 2 or 3 ingredients) ideas.
Final Tablescape
Typically I set my table either Sunday or Monday night including all the buffet serving pieces and utensils. If you are going to have fresh floral centerpieces be sure to have those preorder for easy pickup next week. Press any linens, polish silver, fill salt and peppers and stock your bar early this week because it can all be done in advance and will be one less thing on the to do list between Tuesday and Thanksgiving Day next week!
TIP: an easy inexpensive centerpiece idea is to buy a bag of fresh cranberries and a bunch of fall florals from the grocery. Wash the cranberries and use them to fill a clear vase. These can be found at goodwill or the dollar store for really great price points. Then fill the vase with water and your florals.
